2016 National Arbor Day Awards

Leif Dormsjo & Tommy Wells Champion of Trees Award
Two key public officials who led the way in bringing Canopy 3,000 to life are Leif Dormsjo—Director of the District Department of Transportation and Tommy Wells— Director of the District Department of Energy and Environment. “Canopy 3,000” is part of a bigger goal to grow Washington DC’s tree canopy to 40 percent by 2032. In order to reach that goal, the District is working strategically to plant trees over the next 17 years.

Leaders in tree planting, conservation, and environmental stewardship from around the country and world are honored every other year at our bi-annual Arbor Day Awards celebration held in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The awards ceremony is part of the annual Arbor Day weekend celebration held at Lied Lodge & Conference Center. Our next awards ceremony will take place in April of 2018.
