2015 National Arbor Day Awards

The 2015 Arbor Day Awards honored thirteen individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution to tree planting, conservation and stewardship. Dr. Nina Bassuk, Ithaca, NY
Frederick Law Olmsted Award

Dr. Nina Bassuk is the founder of Cornell University's Urban Horticulture Institute. Dr. Bassuk's focus includes the development of bare-root transplanting technology and CU-Structural Soil—a patented mix for urban environments engineered by Dr. Bassuk and her colleagues at Cornell to provide rooting area for street trees, thereby decreasing tree mortality. Thanks to her efforts, thousands of trees have been planted around the world in conditions that would not have otherwise supported trees.

Leaders in tree planting, conservation, and environmental stewardship from around the country and world are honored each year at our annual Arbor Day Awards celebration held in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The awards ceremony is part of the annual Arbor Day weekend celebration held at Lied Lodge & Conference Center.
