Champion of Trees Award

Mayor Barbara Bass, Tyler, TX

On April 30, 2010, City of Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass announced the Tree Tyler Initiative with the goal to plant 5,000 trees in 5 years. The Tree Tyler Initiative is championed by Mayor Bass, and she has rolled up her sleeves to ensure that the goal is reached. As of February 28, 2013 the City of Tyler had added more than 5,500 trees to their urban canopy, thereby surpassing their lofty goal years early, thanks in large part to the efforts of Mayor Bass.
