Our serviceberry shadblow was just about a foot tall when we got in May of 2018. However, it now measures at 3' 4"! It's in a pot for the time being until we redo our yard. We cannot wait to plant it!

I planted this yoshino cherry tree in our backyard in April 2013 in honor of the birth of my first son (born March 2013). It has really thrived and has not required a lot of special attention. It is planted so that it can be seen from his bedroom window. I hope he'll enjoy its beauty for many years to come!

My son and I planted our Family Trees around 8 years ago where I reside. We planted two green apple trees and for the past 4 years we have had fresh organic sustainable, dense heart healthy green apples. I feel a sense of accomplishment because of the success.

This is the first 50 of 100 saplings we planted in a old horse pasture we just purchased in the southern tier of New York. We are excited to see them grow and offer shelter for wildlife!
Phyllis Hauner-Morris, East Stroudsburg, PA
Planted in 1990, the summer after I moved to PA, this is one of the few trees from the Arbor Foundation that have survived the rocky terrain and the deer.
Matt seiler, Elkhorn, NE
I planted my ginkgo this fall. The tree 2 inches in diameter and about 8 feet tall. I chose the ginkgo for its wonder yellow fall color, resistance to bugs and disease and because of its unique leaves and longevity. I have also planted 2 maple this year, a fall fiesta and a pacific sunset. I hope to share them as well. The fall fiesta and ginkgo are planted on the north side of my home, and the pacific sunset is planted on the south side of my front yard.

I want to thank Arbor day for my trees. I got these when I joined. They were just thin sticks but as you can see, with loving care, they are now doing great. They will soon provide shade for my entire house.
Rachel Bauer, Boyertown, PA
This is the tree that adorns my Nana's home. It's planted next to her door to great me with every visit. It's no wonder that it's grown into this unique pineapple shape; a welcoming sign of warmth and hospitality.
Sue Mason, Garrettsville, OH
This is a Royal Paulownia. The trunks come up from the ground yearly and end up as this huge bush. Entire tree dies back in the cold weather. The wood is hollow and resembles pipe.
Carolyn Pavlovic, Willits, CA
the tree is currently in a pot - full sun. part of the tree has turned brown (I assume that part has died) pods are from a little yellow flower that appears in June/July - the pods are formed in August - September. the tree is approximately 3 years old - my husband planted it from seed, but did not label it - he died approximately a year ago, so I can not ask his the name, etc. Any help you could provide would be helpful - thank you.
Maud Henne, Charlottesville, VA
I saw this Koelreuteria paniculata (Golden Raintree) in the neighborhood of Martha Jefferson Hospital. The strange is that I have never seen blossoms and fruit (lanterns) at the same time. Normally one follows the other.
Barbara Drant, Weldon Spring, MO

This is a picture of the Poplar (Tulip) Tree you sent to us. It was just a stick when we received it in 2014. Now it's a beautiful young tree.
Devah Brinker, Bordentown, NJ
I planted this tree many years ago (possibly 6 yrs or more) and it just bloomed last year 2015 in late spring. I could not identify it and neither could other professionals I showed it to. Can you tell me what the name of it is?
Kathleen, Summerville, PA
This is my "perfect" tree. It was only a twig, but like all my Arbor Day trees, I started it in a 5 gallon bucket for two years to allow it to develop a good root system before I planted it. I also considered distance from power lines before planting. Planting a tree is like raising a child. When I moved here 15 years ago, there were few trees on the property. I've added 40 trees and shrubs since.
Heidi Ripke-Curcio, DeLand, FL
This is one of my 10 free trees (Live Southern Oak) from Arbor Day Foundation. We had just bought a new house, so we had lots of room for trees. I planted this as a twig in November of 2016. This is picture was taken in September of 2016
Joyce Squires, West Winfield, NY
This is a Variegated Maple. The leaves on the lower portion come out first and have white edges that fade as the summer goes on. The top part is green and there are some green branches in the lower part. The multicolored leaves drop first in the fall. There does not appear to be any grafting on the tree. As the years go on, there are more and more green branches on the tree. It was here when we moved in 3 years ago.

About 10-11 years ago we planted 10 1/2 to 1 foot Colorado Blue Spruces at a spacing of 10 feet centered 10 feet off our property line. Attached is a close-up picture and a picture taken down the line of trees in the summer of 2016. Some of the tress are as high as approximately 8 feet tall. (2nd pic sent under separate cover.)

These Hazelnut trees from the ArborDay Foundation were planted this spring within a few days of when we received them. They now appear to have a blight. Does anyone know what we could do to make them healthy?
Ann Hinkle, Monroe, OH
This is the oldest oak tree in Butler County, Ohio and home to Great Horned owls, squirrels, raccoons, birds and bees. Location is my neighbor's front yard in Monroe, Ohio.
Hamblen, Mary, ocala, FL
I received a red plum sapling from a neighbor and planted it in our backyard a few years ago. It is so beautiful when it blooms in spring and is my favorite tree. When one drives down the street towards our home, the tree is a gorgeous sight to see.
Michael Vass Jr, Clarks Summit, PA
I planted this tree on Arbor day 1984 after Abington Heights School District handed them to everyone. A cinderblock for protection the first few years from the weather and mower and that was it. The surrounding trees are also Arbor Days trees from Abington Heights as well.
Ronald Burger, Kenyon, MN

After buying our first house in 1990 we started planting the 10 free trees each year - planting them in the garden and then transplanted to their permanent sites after 3 years. Planted mostly along the perimeter of the lot and now we have a cozy backyard with 25+ year old spruces, pines and firs - some of which are 30-35 feet tall!
Sherry Ferguson, Kunkletown, PA
This Washington Hawthorn was purchased in 2004 as a foot long seedling. Twelve years later, this is what it looks like in our yard. The birds love it as well as I do!
Jeanne Marquis, North Smithfield, RI
I am always in awe of that beautiful tree that you sent us 40 or 50 years ago. It has grown beautifully and I always envision it with Christmas Lights.
Leemer G. Cernohlavek, Fulton, MO
When I first joined the Arbor Day Foundation I received this Cypress Seedling. At the time it arrives it was just a stick about a foot long and I had a hard time trying to figure out which end to plant. I finally noticed some fuzz on one end and planted it. The first year I believe it grew about 2 feet.
Jan Carrico, Richmond, TX
I do not remember how long ago that I got this Bald Cypress tree as a bare-rooted plant from Arbor Day Foundation. Needless to say, I have had to keep the lower limbs pruned as it has grown. I think it has the best shape of any tree of its kind that I have seen elsewhere. It was only supposed to be temporary but it has been a permanent fixture in my back yard for many years. I am guessing its age to be between 15 and 25 years old but it could be more.
William Cale, Mobile, AL
This is a mystery tree. I've searched anywhere I could to find out what it could possibly be with not even a hint. It looks similar to the leaves of an English rose. Maybe someone there will have better luck!
Patricia Hamilton, Eugene, OR
We planted this tree over 10 years ago. I believe it is a mimosa, or fimosa? We're not sure. But is absolutely gorgeous. We receive tons of compliments. It grew really fast. The only negative is its very messy. But it's worth it! Love it!
Jennifer Wagner, Rochester, NY
Our favorite climbing tree, a 25 year old pussy willow in our backyard. All the kids in our neighborhood climb our tree and often sit and read in the branches.
Iván Henao, Stanardsville, VA
Two of the free trees planted January 2006 in Greene County, VA, at 1500 ft. The shortest one to the left is Washington Hawthorn, River Birch the one in the middle. They probably benefit from being at the lowest part of the septic drainfield. Now I can use the River Birch to tie lines to put clothes to dry in the sun. Photograph taken July 2016.
Roy LeMaster Jr, Fairborn, OH
I bought this Northern Red oak tree in April of 2011 and in just over 5 years this oak tree has really taken off! I never knew that any oak tree of any kind could be so fast growing! I love this tree! Not only does it turn a beautiful red in the fall, but it's also started making acorns just this year! So exciting to watch it grow!
Sandy Waters, Baltimore, MD
This special crabapple tree was planted in the 1980s on a busy Baltimore street. Each year it has more and more blossoms, but at Christmas time it is laden with Christmas ornaments and people stop to take photos of themselves and their children in front of it. I am so proud of this little tree that has brought my neighbors and me such joy.

My beloved ginkgo is about twenty years old now. I am inside Bud's slender umbrella, looking up at the glorious yellow of his fan-shaped leaves in fall.
Tari Pantaleo, Plainsboro, NJ
I planted this ginkgo about twenty years ago. Ginkgos are marvelous trees, not only eccentrically beautiful, but also resistant to drought, disease, insects, and pollution. This stunner is a Princeton Sentry ginkgo, a cultivar of the renowned William Flemer III of Princeton Nurseries in Kingston, New Jersey. His name is Bud.

During the past few years I have been planting hazelnuts, a few at a time. I now have about 60 trees/bushes. We have had hazelnut butter, chocolate nut candies and all sorts of goodies from our Arbor Day hazelnuts.

We have many trees, but this one always makes me happy when I look at it.
Marian O'Brien, CONGERS, NY
This was a free tree sent to me from Arbor Day 5+ years ago. It's a Red Maple - birds visit all day - just need some good rain for the parched grass.
Annette, Katahdin, ME
This is my tree because it is in Baxter State Park in my state of Maine. It was given to me and to all the residents of Maine by P. Baxter years ago and I and many others have enjoyed this tree which looks like someone sitting and sh-tting on a rock on a beautiful trail to big and little Niagra Falls on Nesowedehunk Stream at the foot of Mount Katahdin. This tree and all the others in this park are preserved for the wildlife and for our well being and our future's well being.
John Cieslewicz, West Allis, WI
Received this tree from Arbor Day Foundation in 2008. Planted it on my grandsons 1st. birthday May 28th. I named the tree Charlie after him
sidney sitzer, Chrolletsville, VA
Arbor Day had given us trees when we first moved here 10 years ago as gifts for a donation. They included our beautiful, tall ornamental pear and huge pecan tree, as well as crepe myrtles. Thank you Arbor Day for the splendid sight we have off our patio.
Kevin Oblisk, North Canton, OH
I planted this rain tree in my backyard about seven years ago. It's named after my one and only granddaughter Sativa.
Genevieve Conradi, New Bremen, OH
I received this blue spruce from Arbor Day in 2001. I potted it for a couple of years and then planted it in the yard. As you can see in the pictures it survived dogs and construction and now in 2016 it is a beautiful tree.

This is a collection of trees in our front yard, planted as saplings from the Arbor Day Foundation. On the right is a thriving magnolia. Behind it is a sycamore "bush". I had thought I was planting a golden raintree, but it turned out to be a sycamore tree. I cut it down because it would have been too close to our house, but it kept sprouting new growth. So now I prune it like a bush. Behind that is an American Redbud. And in the distance are two rose of sharon trees.
Jay Ducharme, Westfield, MA
This is one of two Washington Hawthorn trees I received as a sapling from the Arbor Day Foundation. In about six years, it's shot up to about 20 feet and has become a popular hangout for the area's sparrows and finches. In front of it are two rose of sharon trees that are about four years old.
Brandon Howell, Columbia, TN
This is Adelyn's Austrian Pine I planted the day after we brought her home from the hospital in Oct of 2014. We can now watch them grow from year to year.
brandon howell, Columbia, TN
We planted this Colorado Blue Spruce in 2009 when it was about a foot tall. Now it's over 6 ft and as beautiful as ever.
BShippie, Port Orchard, WA
Japanese Maple planted 2006 at our new home. It stays about 4 foot, situated in northeast near our front entry and changes colors with the seasons. The tree does drop it's leaves in the winter but easy to manage. A nice access to our home!
BShippie, Port Orchard, WA
The Douglas Fir was planted as a "sibling" in 2010 and is now over 6 foot tall. Our property is surrounded by trees (a mini forest) and the soil is perfect for transplanting. When we find the trees begin to shoot up in our lawn and plants we replant them within our property.
Lois B. Levitan, Chevy Chase, MD
This beautiful Crab Apple tree has a spectacular display of pink blossoms in the Spring. Of interest as well, is its trunk which twists and turns in a graceful and sculptural fashion.
Jeanie Spielman, Pecatonica, IL
This tree was in the yard of a house I owned in South Haven, MI. Some kind of evergreen that had long skinny pine cones. It was especially popular with kids because it was so easy to climb as demonstrated by my dog, Zack. My all time favorite tree.

Dave Kaminski, Bowling Green, KY
Enormous Tulip Poplar (state tree) in my back yard -- I was convinced it had to be the biggest Tulip in KY with a 176 inch diameter, only to find it was 40 inches shy of the current record :-( I love it anyway...

Our home is surrounded by trees and even though we are technically in the city, we are very close to the Cuyahoga Valley Metro Parks. This allows us to be a few minutes from downtown and a few minutes from pristine and sprawling nature.
Elizabeth Kearns, Akron, OH
Sweet Mock Orange Tree in our side yard produces glorious, sweet smelling blossoms in the spring.
Joy Johnson, Huntsville, AL
Here is a 2016 Spring snap of my Arbor Day redbud, about 7 years old now, or so, in the middle of my backyard, which now holds many Arbor Day trees of varying ages. The first year this redbud had a bird's nest in it was when I knew it was all grown up! Not only is it a splendid tree, but it is also my "wish tree". You can see a fabric wish tied to a branch. It's likely to be a wish for environmental justice. Thank you, Arbor Day!
Isabella Fantauzzi, Burnt Hills, NY
These trees line our backyard. They are a forest mixture of young and old trees. They provide homes for squirrel, woodpeckers, cardinals and lots of chickadees.
Alejandra Bakos, Dallas, TX
This weeping willow we received as a gift from a friend from Arbor Day. He was just a stem and now look and it's only been 4 years.

Joyce Guthrie, Waterford, VA
This wonderful tree was a delight as it changed with th seasons. Unfortunately it was purposefully removed when an office building was built on the lot. I miss it and its beautiful celebration of autumn.
Lori Shook, Kirksville, MO
These aren't exactly my trees but I walk or ride my bike past them frequently. This is such an inviting group on such a warm day.

This is from the 10 American Redbud Trees we got. We moved and replanted them... it is amazing how they grew Spring and Summer 2015 in their permanent place 4' and growing. They are beautiful. This is my daughter Ci by the tree she's 11 (almost 12 in 2 weeks), she's also 5'4"

This is one year from planting. The acorn was harvested on October 20, 2013 and the seedling was planted on January 25, 2014. This is January 25, 2015. This is a valley oak.
Rodd, Phoenix, AZ
This is the parent tree I pulled an acorn from this tree on October 20, 2013. I let it sprout over the winter in a controlled environment. I put it in the ground on January 25, 2014.
David Garmendia, Pine Bush, NY
Been a member for over 20 years. Trees vary in heights and success. My property in Pine Bush, Orange County, NY is an Acre and a third. When my house was built it was on an empty lot. Now I have started a screen on the north side of house with evergreens and shade on south side with deciduous trees.
Lora, Wooster, OH
I recently planted 2 young blue spruce trees in the Rocky Mountains to help replace trees destroyed by fire in 2012. A friend who owns the property plans to keep me updated on their progress.
Ruth Fugee, Culpeper, VA
This is a free red maple that arrived as a stick. My grandson is watering it four days later. Look at all those leaves!
John Keller, Lawrence, KS
This was one of the FREE trees offered by National Arbor day with a contribution! It's a Sugar Maple. It's in the middle of our back yard, providing shade to the garden in the late afternoon, and a nice focal point from our deck.
John Keller, Lawrence, KS
These are my White Firs (National Arbor Day) growing in the front yard. I think groups of trees look nice, and it makes them happy to have company! At a certain point, I realized the value of labeling trees with species/year. Unfortunately, the label is now missing. (I blame squirrels for everything bad that happens in my yard.)
John Keller, Lawrence, KS
This Norway Spruce tree is one of the first trees planted after I became a member of National Arbor Day in 1986. I like to start 10 trees at a time in the garden, then transplant later to smaller groups in the yard. Then I can harvest some as Christmas trees in 7-10 years, leaving some like this as specimens. It's very satisfying to look at a huge living thing and remember that it laid in your hand when it was a baby!
Donna Dolan, Montgomery, NY
This is a beautiful shade tree on our old dairy farm in washingtonville ny. It was always always cool under it let alone beautiful in the fall. I would lay under it and one day decided to take a pic of the tree laying on by back. I did this so all could see the beauty of the tree as I did.
Donna Dolan, Montgomery, NY
I call this tree - Deer Tree in the Fall - (see the side view with its antlers) This is my favorite tree. As a child living on our dairy farm, we would hang the little milk can on the tree for Mom to bring up to the barn to put milk in it for the house.
Edna Markel, Beaverdale, PA
Planted in 2010 or 2011. These Hazelnut trees have not produced any nuts yet but I'm not sure if they are all the same species as I was told you need 2 different species for them to pollenate. Also they did not grow well the first 2 years but are now getting a little taller.
Marlene Suter, Lawrence, MI
My Hazel nut trees are about 12 years old and gave me a bountiful harvest this year.
Marlene Suter, Lawrence, MI
My Hazelnut trees are about 12 years old and this is the first year that I had a substantial harvest.

This is my Chinese tallow. When I bought my house it was here, I prune it to make it beautiful not sure how old it is.
