Bastrop, Texas, resident Donna Fiebrich was named the grand prize winner for the Arbor Day Foundation's fall Volunteer Center contest and chose Friends of the Lost Pines State Park to receive a $250 donation. Earlier this year, the Foundation, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas A&M Forest Service launched the Lost Pines Forest Recovery Campaign, a multi-year initiative to raise money to plant more than 4 million trees on public and private land in the loblolly ecosystem.

Oncor, a Texas-based electricity provider, is working with its suppliers to offer 12,000 free trees to customers through Energy-Saving Trees, an Arbor Day Foundation program that conserves energy and reduces household electricity bills through strategic tree planting.

Students and staff at Los Angeles Valley College planted 30 trees from the Arbor Day Foundation this afternoon, in celebration of the campus commitment to tree care and conservation. Los Angeles Valley College is the first college or university in the Los Angeles area to be recognized as a Tree Campus USA and is also the first community college to participate in the program.

UPDATE, 10/29/12: Delaware State University event canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. The event at LaSalle University is postponed.... As a growing number of colleges and universities apply for 2012 Tree Campus USA recognition, the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota announced five tree planting events at campuses throughout the country this fall.
