Nebraska City, Neb. (Oct. 16, 2014) – TD Bank and the Arbor Day Foundation are accepting TD Green Street Grant applications from qualified municipalities from October 1 through December 1, 2014.
The TD Green Streets grant program is entering its third year of supporting innovation in urban and community forestry. Ten grants of amounts up to $20,000 will fund projects in underserved communities, and will assist with the purchase of trees, tree planting, maintenance costs and educational activities.
To be eligible for a TD Green Streets grant, qualified municipalities are required to be current Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA-designated communities within TD Bank's United States service area. Tree City USA is the nation's flagship urban and community forestry program, providing a foundation for effective, efficient community tree care.
Applications will be accepted until December 1 and can be completed online at arborday.org/programs/tdgreenstreets. Recipients will be notified by January 31, 2015.
TD Green Streets is a component of TD Forests, a North American initiative that protects critical forest habitats. As part of the program, TD has committed to reducing its paper usage by 20 percent by 2015. TD Forests includes urban tree programs such as TD Green Streets and TD Tree Days – TD's flagship employee volunteer program.
"TD is proud to award TD Green Streets grants to these very deserving municipalities for their meaningful urban and community forestry projects," said Karen Clarke-Whistler, Chief Environment Officer for TD Bank Group. "Our work with the Arbor Day Foundation is a key component of our TD Forests initiative and aligns with our goal to be a strong environmental partner in our communities."
"We're excited to join TD Bank in supporting ten communities committed to effective tree care for the benefit of all," said Matt Harris, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. "TD Green Streets will help these worthy Tree City USA program participants to remain leading environmental stewards of urban and community forestry."
