Milestone Planting Day will restore Houston park devastated by Hurricane Harvey
LINCOLN, Neb., April 16, 2018 – This spring, the Arbor Day Foundation and Boise Paper will celebrate the 10th planting day event of Project UP™, a partnership to revitalize neighborhoods across North America through tree planting. Project UP turns abandoned and neglected urban spaces into clean, green neighborhood gathering places where families and individuals can come together, relax and thrive.
Boise Paper launched Project UP in 2011 as a way to demonstrate how a commitment to sustainability could breathe new life into communities in need. To date, hundreds of Boise Paper employees, partners and community members have volunteered to plant thousands of trees, shrubs, and plants at transformational projects in California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ontario, Canada.

The 10th milestone project will take place this spring at Buffalo Bayou in Houston, Texas. In 2017 the city of Houston was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. It is estimated that tens of thousands of trees were lost during the storm. Flood waters were so high for so long, that many trees were sitting in water for more than a week. Project UP will help restore the tree canopy of Buffalo Bayou Park which was completely destroyed by the hurricane.

In addition to Project UP, Boise Paper has also provided support for the Arbor Day Foundation's NeighborWoods Month and Alliance for Community Trees, which also puts trees into high areas of need in local communities.
