Nebraska City, Neb. (March 14, 2011) – Southwest Power & Light, a retail electric provider based in Houston, Texas, has announced its continued official corporate sponsorship of the Arbor Day Foundation.
Southwest Power & Light supports participation in the reforestation efforts of forests in the United States, which are in desperate need of replanting.
"By planting trees, Southwest Power & Light is an example of a company that understands the importance of making a positive impact on the earth," said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. "The trees planted by Southwest Power & Light will help restore our nation's forests so future generations can enjoy these places of magnificent splendor."
The need to plant trees in our nation's forest is great. The result of recent years of record wildfires has left a backlog of nearly 1 million acres that need to be replanted in U.S. National Forests alone.
"Southwest Power & Light is proud that our customers have made the Plant-A-Tree electricity plans such a success and to see our support of the Arbor Day Foundation continue to grow," said Jeff James, vice president of marketing at Southwest Power & Light. "The Plant-A-Tree Plans reflect Southwest Power & Light's commitment to supporting the environment and the stewardship of resources in the communities that we serve."
