Community Volunteers Help Create Danbury’s First Ever
Monarch Butterfly Migration Runway!

DANBURY, CT, April 24, 2025 – Tarrywile Park Authority (TPA) is proud to celebrate the 2025 Arbor Day Celebrations, uniting the community in a shared mission of environmental care and conservation at the heart of Danbury’s beloved 722-acre Tarrywile Park. With strong community support, this two-day event brings together volunteers, arborists, and local businesses. Activities will take place on Friday, April 25 (professional arborists only) from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sunday, April 27, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Tarrywile Park, 70 Southern Blvd., Danbury, CT 06810.

Certified arborists, representing a coalition of generous local partners, including Advanced Tree Removal, Barts Tree Service, City of Danbury, Public Works Forestry Division, and Eversource Energy, and Lewis Services will work together to identify declining trees affected by pests or pathogens for selective felling and removal.

In keeping with the spirit of National Arbor Day, Hollandia Nurseries will gift and plant a majestic maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba), –a species that outlived the dinosaurs–its roots symbolizing the enduring legacy and purpose of the day.

“As we celebrate Arbor Day, I want to commend the collective efforts that our community has put into preserving and enhancing the beauty of Tarrywile Park. Just as last year’s event brought together professionals and volunteers to ensure the health and sustainability of our park, we are excited to continue to build on the tradition of environmental stewardship,” said Mayor Roberto L. Alves. “With the leadership of the Tarrywile Park Authority, and the support of our local partners, we can further strengthen our community’s commitment to preserving the vital green spaces that make Danbury such a wonderful place to live.”

“There are a few stands of troubled conifers and deciduous trees that require immediate attention, so this year’s Arbor Day Celebrations are very timely,” said Duane E. Perkins, TPA Board Member. “With support from Friends of Tarrywile Park, Inc., I am excited to plan for our community volunteers to work together to create Danbury’s first ever Monarch Butterfly Migration Runway; repurposing the iconic cattle watering trough, to help reverse the decline of this iconic species.”

2025 City of Milton Arbor Day Ceremony

City of Milton to Celebrate Arbor Day with Tree Planting at Milton High School MILTON, Fla
The City of Milton is proud to continue its longstanding commitment to urban forestry by celebrating Arbor Day with a special tree planting ceremony at Milton High School on April 25, 2025, at 12:30 p.m.
City officials, students, and community members will come together to plant a new tree on campus, reinforcing the City’s dedication to environmental sustainability and the benefits of a thriving urban canopy.
Trees do more than beautify our city—they reduce urban heat, improve air and water quality, increase property values, and enhance overall quality of life for current and future generations,” said Edward Spears, City Manager. “We are excited to celebrate Arbor Day with the students at Milton High School and continue our efforts to keep Milton green.”
This year’s Arbor Day celebration comes as Milton is once again recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation—a designation the city has proudly maintained for 31 consecutive years. The Tree City USA program honors communities that demonstrate a strong commitment to urban forestry by meeting four core standards:
• Maintaining a tree board or department
• Having a community tree ordinance
• Spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
• Celebrating Arbor Day with a community event
Recently, the city planted more than 80 native trees in city parks thanks to a $23,000 FDACS Urban Forestry Tree Grant. This initiative aims to restore Milton’s Urban Tree Canopy, which plays a vital role in stormwater management, reducing erosion, and protecting the Blackwater River.
For more information about the Arbor Day event, please contact the Public Information Officer at (850) 983-5400, ext.1046, or email [email protected].

2025 State Arbor Day Celebration

Join us in celebrating the 2025 State Arbor Day celebration on May 20, 2025, at North Dakota Game and Fish's headquarters in Bismarck. We are recognizing 30 years since the "Year of the Family" family forest planting, a Centennial Trees project that honored babies born in the year 1994. As many of those honored are having families of their own now, let's continue to celebrate the tradition of tree planting. The North Dakota Forest Service welcomes anyone to join the fun. We will be handing out 100 FREE tree seedlings to families (while supplies last, courtesy of Towner State Nursery) and providing educational activities for children utilizing the environmental education program Project Learning Tree.

Attendees can help plant the ceremonial tree, explore ND Game and Fish's hiking trails, visit the original Family Forest planting, fish in the OWLS pond, walk the native tree and shrub interpretive trail, and participate in hands-on activities about trees. This event is free and open to the public.
