The partnership marks the planting of 2 million trees in our nation's forests
Lincoln, Neb. July 31, 2018 -- Warranty Solutions and the Arbor Day Foundation have reached a new milestone in their partnership by planting two million trees in our nation's forests. The partnership began in 2009 to help improve air quality, water quality, mitigate the effects of climate change, combat deforestation and prevent species loss.
The 2 millionth tree was planted on the Upper Altamaha River Basin in southeast Georgia. The Altamaha River watershed supports the largest concentration of rare species of any river in the state. It is home to more than 120 rare and endangered plant and wildlife species including mussels, bald eagles and swallow-tailed kites. The replanting project also focuses on restoring habitat for threatened species such as the gopher tortoise.
"We are proud of reaching this milestone with the support of Warranty Solutions," said Dan Lambe, president, Arbor Day Foundation. "Their commitment to forests is restoring critical wildlife habitat and improving the life of residents in surrounding communities."
Plantings have occurred in 18 forests across the country including Pike National Forest in Colorado, Pere Marquette State Forest in Michigan and the Mississippi Alluvial Valley. The reforestation efforts are restoring critical watersheds, protecting endangered wildlife habitat and offsetting carbon emissions.
President of Warranty Solutions, Adam Pope said, "Warranty Solutions is proud and honored to be a partner with the Arbor Day Foundation and for reaching this significant milestone of 2 million trees planted. It is important for companies like ours to do all we can to help preserve, protect and restore one of our nation's most valuable resources, its forests and wildlife habitats. We are committed to supporting the goals and objectives of the Arbor Day Foundation for many years to come and I look forward to continuing the partnership and reaching the next milestone."
In 2002, the Hayman Fire burned 137,000 acres of forestland on Pike National Forest, becoming the largest fire in Colorado's history and impairing the South Platte watershed. More than 60 percent of the water used by Denver residents originates in the forest as rain or snowmelt. The trees planted on Pike National Forest are critical to restoring Denver's drinking water.
Located in the northwestern part of Michigan's lower peninsula, Pere Marquette State Forest is home to the Kirtland's warbler and is a breeding hub for migratory songbirds. Replanting efforts have increased the number of singing males from less than 200 to more than 1,300, bringing the species back from the brink of extinction.
The bottomland hardwood ecosystem of the Mississippi River Valley is one of the most important critical wetland resources on the North American continent. Only 5 million acres of forestland remain on what was once 25 million acres of forest. The loss of forestland has led to a decline in wildlife, a loss of natural flood control, deteriorated water quality and an increasing dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. Reforestation efforts will directly improve water quality by filtering out pollutants in the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2009, Warranty Solutions launched the eco-friendly EcoMind product option, providing additional mechanical breakdown coverage for the parts that help vehicles run more efficiently, burn fuel more cleanly and reduce overall emission output. Throughout the last nine years of Warranty Solutions' partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, on average, 25 trees were planted for each EcoMind product option purchased.
