Arbor Day Foundation Announces Partnership with Ayumma to Plant Trees in America's Forests
Nebraska City, Neb. (Feb. 26, 2010) – The Arbor Day Foundation is working with the forestry and conservation departments in nine states to plant more than 2.3 million trees on state lands this year.
This is the second consecutive year the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation has planted trees in state-run forests.
The Foundation is working with the Florida Division of Forestry to plant nearly 1 million trees in the John M. Bethea, Cary and Okaloacoochee state forests. Other states that will plant trees through the Arbor Day Foundation partnership are: Alabama, Mississippi, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Washington.
"The Arbor Day Foundation, our members and partners are thrilled to make a positive impact across the country by planting trees in state forests and state-owned lands," said Brad Brandt, reforestation program manager at the Arbor Day Foundation. "Trees planted in our forests will help clean the air, protect water supplies and provide habitat for wildlife."
Here is a list of each tree-planting project that will be funded by the Arbor Day Foundation (including the number of trees that will be planted):
? Boys Colony in Montgomery, Ala. (72,000 trees)
? Little River State Forest, Alabama (65,000 trees)
? Mackinaw State Forest, Michigan (600,000 trees)
? Smith County School District, Mississippi (100,430 trees)
? Bladen Lakes State Forest, North Carolina (180,000 trees)
? Moss Island and White Lake Wildlife Management Areas, Tennessee (10,000 trees)
? TreeVitalize Metros Riparian Buffers in Pennsylvania metro areas (100,000 trees)
? Bayfield County Forest, Wisconsin (170,000 trees)
? Northwest Region, State Department of Natural Resources, Washington (103,780 trees)
Last year, the Arbor Day Foundation partnered with state forests to plant 2.6 million trees in 11 states and Puerto Rico.
