Former New England Patriot Kicks Off Latest Stop of Traveling Tree Exhibit in the Heart of Boston
Nebraska City, Neb. – The Arbor Day Foundation is offering for the first time a tree identification guide for the entire United States and Canada in book form. What Tree Is That?: A guide to the more common trees of North America, published by the Arbor Day Foundation, is an ideal resource to help people identify trees in a simple, step-by-step process.
What Tree Is That? is a unique book that takes an easy-to-use, step-by-step approach to tree identification. The book will help people identify more than 250 species of trees that live and grow in North America. The step-by-step approach explains what to look for while determining the species of a specific tree, such as the shape of the leaves, the differences in the leaf stems and twig structures, the fruits and flowers, and the details of buds and bark.
What Tree Is That? features meticulously detailed original botanical illustrations of many distinctive characteristics of many species of trees in full color. The book was illustrated by Karina Helm with the Arbor Day Foundation, who specializes in scientific illustrations.
Recreational and professional arborists alike will discover What Tree Is That? is one of the most user-friendly resources to have at their fingertips. Its beautiful illustrations are in precise detail to depict natural colors, shapes and textures, so users can make a positive species identification in just a few easy steps.

About the Illustrator:
Karina Helm is an illustrator and graphic designer with the Arbor Day Foundation. Since 2003, Helm has been a freelance artist, creating scientific and natural history illustrations for research accompaniment, educational purposes, and private commissions. Her work has been displayed in juried exhibitions throughout the United States and has appeared in numerous publications. She also teaches visual art techniques at art and natural history centers near her home in Lincoln, Neb. Helm received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and studio art from Pacific Lutheran University in 2001.
