Fogg Charitable Trust Funds Community Tree Projects in Florida 

LINCOLN, Neb. (June 17, 2026) — The Arbor Day Foundation, with support from the Fogg Charitable Trust, is advancing two community-based tree planting projects in Florida designed to strengthen climate resilience, expand food access, and provide hands-on educational opportunities for students and residents.

Through investments in Jacksonville and Leesburg, the Fogg Charitable Trust is continuing the philanthropic legacy of Ed and Lisbeth Fogg by supporting work that benefits both communities and the environment.

In Jacksonville, trees will be planted at River City Science Academy Middle and High School, a site located in a city identified as at risk for climate gentrification. As coastal residents and businesses move inland to higher ground, many remaining communities face increased vulnerability to flooding, extreme weather, and limited access to fresh food.

In Leesburg, tree planting efforts are taking place in a rural community facing increasing environmental challenges. Once known for watermelon production, Leesburg has seen agricultural changes as regional growth shifts priorities and land use. With rising temperatures, hot and humid conditions, and an elevated risk for hurricanes, tornadoes, and severe winds, proactive measures such as planting trees are critical to strengthening the community’s resilience.

Legacy Foundation in Leesburg supports educational programming through Legacy Farms and Legacy Academy, where students and community members engage in learning about agriculture, nutrition, and STEM. The tree planting project will expand these efforts by providing opportunities to teach the importance of trees while increasing access to locally grown food.

Produce grown through the program will support local organizations, including a church food bank and a small-scale student-run farmers market, helping to improve food access while fostering community connections.

The Arbor Day Foundation held a special connection with Ed and Lisbeth Fogg, who supported the organization during their lifetimes. Through the Fogg Charitable Trust, their legacy continues by investing in community-focused environmental projects in regions they called home, including Florida.
