The Arbor Day Foundation Celebrates 50 Years with Special Signage in Downtown Lincoln

04/27/22

To celebrate the Arbor Day Foundation’s 50th anniversary, more than 30 banners and directory signs showcasing a new anniversary logo went up along the streets of downtown Lincoln around the organization’s headquarters at the corner of 12th and P streets. A two-story banner has also been hung from its building facing south along P Street.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a global nonprofit headquartered in the heart of downtown Lincoln. Since its inception in 1972 by John Rosenow, the Arbor Day Foundation has helped to plant almost 500 million trees in communities and forests in more than 50 countries.

“Over the last 50 years, a tree has changed from a way to beautify our yards to a tool helping to solve some of the world’s most pressing issues we face today,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “We will use this milestone anniversary to reflect and celebrate with our members, partners and supporters, but we are already looking forward to what comes next, because people and the planet need trees and forests now more than ever.”

In addition to the Foundation’s own anniversary, Friday, April 29, also marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day, one of the oldest environmental holidays on the calendar.

The Arbor Day Foundation is using the anniversaries this week to announce its commitment to planting 500 million trees in the next five years with a focus in neighborhoods and forests of greatest need.
