Lincoln, Neb. (April 22, 2020) – A new partnership between Crowd Cow and the Arbor Day Foundation will offset the carbon impact of all Crowd Cow orders. Crowd Cow, the first company to directly connect customers with independent farmers selling pasture-raised meat, will contribute to the Foundation's verified carbon credit projects in the Mississippi River Valley and Peru. The startup has committed to offsetting all carbon associated with their products, from methane released by animals to trucks delivering products to customers' doorsteps.
"We applaud Crowd Cow for expanding their commitment to sustainable business practices," said Dan Lambe, president, Arbor Day Foundation. "Nature-based climate solutions not only mitigate the environmental impact of daily business operations but also protect the ecosystems and economies that people and wildlife alike rely upon."
To achieve carbon neutrality, Crowd Cow will support two verified carbon credit projects through the Arbor Day Foundation. For the GreenTrees Reforestation Project in the lower Mississippi River Valley, the Foundation has planted 5 million trees. The project collectively produces more than 1,000,000 tons of carbon credits each year. In addition to removing carbon from the air, this forestland helps to improve the water quality of the Mississippi River, restore critical habitats for wildlife, and support the livelihoods of local landowners in states along the river from Illinois to Louisiana. In Peru, the Cordillera Azul National Park tropical forest protection project preserves this critically important intact forest landscape near the headwaters of the Amazon. This project protects the local forest ecosystem and native species, all while providing jobs in sustainable cocoa and coffee production.
"Being carbon neutral helps all of us protect the planet while enjoying the meat and seafood we love," says Ethan Lowry, co-founder of Crowd Cow. "We're honored to work with the Arbor Day Foundation on these projects that support both the environment and local communities."
Crowd Cow is committed to environmentally friendly business practices. They feature farms practicing regenerative agriculture, support local agriculture by connecting customers with farms in their region, and use fully recyclable and compostable packaging for all products.
