Jeff Salem, Director of Communications & Public Relations, emailNebraska City, Neb. (Sept. 9, 2008) – There’s no better way to get into the spirit of the AppleJack Festival than by picking apples at Arbor Day Farm.
There will be plenty of pick-your-own apples available at Arbor Day Farm and Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard during the AppleJack Festival, which will be held throughout Nebraska City on Sept. 20-21. Events at Arbor Day Farm are open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day.
Arbor Day Farm is located at 2611 Arbor Avenue in Nebraska City.
“This appears to be our best apple crop in more than 10 years, and picking apples is a wonderful way for families to spend time together and enjoy the outdoors,” said Erik Olson, orchard manager at Arbor Day Farm. “Families can experience nature first-hand by walking through the orchards and selecting apples right off the tree, and they can go home and enjoy the delicious fruit they harvested.”
Guests can also enjoy homemade apple pie, caramel apples, apple cider, hamburgers, hot dogs and apple chicken salad sandwiches at the Pie Garden throughout the Festival. Lied Lodge & Conference Center, a world-class destination at Arbor Day Farm, offers fine dining in a casually elegant setting.
Visitors can also enjoy the new Discovery Ride at Arbor Day Farm’s Tree Adventure attraction. The Discovery Ride gives riders a front row seat during a one-hour journey through woodland trails across the historic 260-acre Arbor Day Farm. Guests ride under a giant red oak leaf canopy as they learn about nature while being transported through apple orchards and vineyards and encounter wildlife in its natural habitat.
While at the Tree Adventure attraction, children, parents and grandparents can explore two Nature Explore Classrooms, walk the Exploratory Trails and climb 50 feet high in the Canopy Tree House.
The area’s largest craft show featuring nature-inspired handcrafted items will be held at the Historic Barns from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day during the AppleJack Festival.
Special AppleJack Festival activities include expert wine, food and nature demonstrations at the new Tent Events; live traditional folk music; tree climbing and cross-cut sawing exhibitions; nature activities for children in the two Nature Explore Classrooms; face painting; a tree sale at the Lied Greenhouse; and a bird exhibit by the National Pigeon Association.
The AppleJack Festival kicks off a special fall season at Arbor Day Farm. Special events include the pick-your-own apple harvest through October, a pick-your-own pumpkin patch beginning in late September, and Discover Fall Day Tours.
