Arbor Day Planting

Replenishing Davidson’s urban tree canopy is one of DLCs most vital missions. Our goal is to plant 200 trees each year through community events during tree planting season (October 1st-March 30th).

As part of our 25th anniversary, we are celebrating NC Arbor Day with a special tree planting event at Fisher. We are hosting this event with the Town at the Archery Range. The Range is a special and unique recreational asset located off the entrance road to the park. We will plant more than 50 trees providing much needed shade and adding to Davidson’s urban canopy.

The event will include an archery demonstration by Sterling Martin, the driving force for creation of the Range which was made possible by support from Mecklenburg County.. The Town will have archery equipment available for those interested in testing their skills at the range.

The trees, shovels, gloves, and other equipment will be on hand for volunteer planters, and all ages are welcome as long as children are accompanied by an adult. These events are great fun and “plant” wonderful memories for volunteers willing to get their hands dirty and learn about the value of trees and how to plant and care for them.

Arbor Day Planting @ Aurora

Where You’ll Be:

This project takes place across three locations within the City of Aurora’s Open Space and Natural Resources system: Plains Conservation Center (PCC), Pronghorn Natural Area, and Star K Ranch.

All of these spaces provide the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Denver Metro’s eastern plains. PCC and Pronghorn feature stretches of native prairie, with PCC offering a sense of vast grasslands far removed from the city. Star K Ranch, in contrast, is home to wetlands and wildlife, surrounded by large stands of old-growth cottonwood trees.

What You’ll Do:

Volunteers will plant a total of 4,000 bare-root saplings and 500 container saplings across the three locations. Groups will be assigned to different sites based on planting needs, contributing to the restoration of critical habitats. Once the work is complete, everyone will gather at the Plains Conservation Center to celebrate and enjoy a shared lunch!

Why It Matters:

This project is part of Aurora’s ongoing efforts to revitalize its open spaces and natural areas. Human activity has left some
stream banks bare, lacking the trees and shrubs needed to prevent erosion and expand riparian corridors. By participating, you will help improve biodiversity and strengthen these ecosystems, ensuring they continue to support local
wildlife. This Arbor Day celebration offers a chance to make a tangible impact while connecting with the land and community.
