The Impact of Rain Forest Rescue

The Arbor Day Foundation and its members have rallied together to make great strides in preserving rain forests. We partner with The Nature Conservancy and local conservation groups to:

Many families rely on the rain forest as their only source of income.
  • Introduce sustainable practices.

Local residents are being educated on the importance of making a living off of the rain forest in a sustainable way. Some partners are even offering micro-credit loans for those seeking to start a forest-friendly business.

  • Protect remaining rain forest land.

We help local governments to convert large portions of the rain forests to protected areas, preserving the landscape and culture of these regions. We also help to combat illegal activity by providing funding for more rangers and for remote sensing technology to detect illegal logging and burning.

  • Replant the forests of Madagascar.

Tree planting efforts are underway to rebuild the lush landscape. Locals are becoming actively involved in reestablishing the rain forest canopy there, creating habitat for lemurs and a better way of life for the people of Madagascar.

  • Shade-grown coffee brings farmers a higher price because of the richer flavor.

    Support local shade-grown coffee farmers.

They are farming responsibly under the canopy of the rain forest to grow a superior product and protect their ancestral land. You can read more about the Arbor Day Shade-Grown Coffee program and buy some of this award-winning coffee today.
