Stretching across eastern Kentucky, the Daniel Boone National Forest encompasses some of the most rugged terrain west of the Appalachian Mountains. Visitors enjoy plenty of recreation and adventure along the trails and waterways of more than 700,000 acres of outdoor splendor.
Daniel Boone National Forest Needs Our Help
One area of the Daniel Boone National has a long history of coal mining with operations dating back to the Civil War. After the coal mining was completed in the 1980s, the land was heavily compacted and natural regeneration of native trees was nonexistent. It is critical that restoration work begins to return these reclaimed mine lands to thriving forest stands.
