Forest OverviewThe Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forest is a combination of three National Forests that are administered as one. The forest is comprised of 2.9 million acres and hosts more than 3.4 million visitors per year. Visitors come from all over the world for the recreation and outdoor experiences that can only be found in central and southern Colorado.
Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forest Needs Our HelpThe Beaver Fire occurred in May of 2010 in the San Miguel River canyon, burning approximately 2,600 acres of mixed conifer forest. This spring 800 acres of forestland need to be restored.
This is the first of two planting projects that will revitalize acres that burned to the point where new tree planting is required. With your help, this critical work will become a reality and reduce the length of forest establishment period from about one hundred years to only about ten years
