In September 2013, City of Bolder Parks and Recreation Department Forestry staff discovered an EAB infestation within the city. It is believed that the beetle was brought into Boulder through infested firewood, and was the first detection of the insect in the state of Colorado, the western-most occurrence of the beetle thus far. These beetles wreak havoc on all native ash within the state. The estimated number of public, private and naturalized ash in Boulder is over 70,000 trees.

Community Tree Recovery is an initiative of the Arbor Day Foundation nationally sponsored by FedEx.
