CEO, Arbor Day Foundation
Matt Harris joined the Arbor Day Foundation in June 2003 as Senior Vice President for Related Business Ventures, overseeing all revenue generating ventures outside of the Foundation’s membership. Matt became the Foundation’s President in 2007, providing leadership for unprecedented growth and impact the Arbor Day Foundation made across the country and around the globe through its diverse tree-planting and education programs. He was appointed CEO by the Foundation’s Board in 2014.
Under his leadership, the Foundation is responsible for the Tree City USA community forestry program, the Tree Line USA recognition program for utilities, the Building With Trees program for builders and developers, the Conservation Trees and Trees For America public education projects, and the Rain Forest Rescue program. In Nebraska City, the Foundation manages Arbor Day Farm and Arbor Lodge (the estate of Arbor Day founder J. Sterling Morton) as educational visitor attractions as well as Lied Lodge and Conference Center, which is dedicated to conservation efforts.
As well as his thorough understanding of management, strategy, and innovation, he brings to his work a life-long passion for the outdoors and its preservation for future generations. His leadership is advancing the work of the Arbor Day Foundation, the nation’s largest nonprofit tree-planting organization with nearly one million members.
