Give your support where it’s needed most

Across the eastern, central, and western United States, we’ve identified large-scale, high priority reforestation projects in forested regions in great need of trees. As extreme weather events and wildfires become more frequent and severe due to climate change, these diverse forests have become more and more vital to preserving the ecological integrity of these regions.

By helping plant trees in these critical forests, your organization can help create a meaningful, tangible impact for the communities and ecosystems who depend on their survival.

American West

In the western U.S., climate change has escalated the destructive nature of wildfires and drought. From Washington state to New Mexico, these disasters continue to become increasingly frequent and severe, posing significant threats to the region’s air and water quality. Fortunately, we can help shape a better future in the West.

For decades, the Arbor Day Foundation has been a leader in supporting forests in the region thanks to a dedicated network of partners, donors, and supporters. With your support, we can help combat the further loss of homes and habitats for the millions of residents and wildlife who call the American West home.

Project Highlight: Texas Longleaf Pine Ecosystems

Central United States

Longleaf pine was once the dominant tree species in the South, covering more than 90 million acres from Virginia to Texas. Early settlers gradually began clearing the forests for agriculture and lumber around 400 years ago. Today, the longleaf pine covers less than 3% of its original range. That loss of ecosystem has been devastating to the nearly 600 animal and plant species that depend on it. This project helps plant longleaf pines on private forestlands throughout Texas, helping to reduce habitat fragmentation to support endangered and threatened species such as the red-cockaded woodpecker, indigo snake, and gopher tortoise.

American East

From historic deforestation to unprecedented natural disasters, the eastern U.S. has seen its landscape completely altered over the past few centuries. Hurricanes and coastal flooding have caused massive levels of devastation, with the further destruction of forest ecosystems leaving both coastal and inland communities increasingly vulnerable.

By teaming up with local planting partners and private landowners, the Arbor Day Foundation is helping to protect both communities and the vibrant biodiversity of the American East. Through your contributions, our efforts will help restore the region’s natural identity and create long-term impact for generations to come.
