Arbor Day Celebration

The youth walk from school to Norm Walburn Arboretum where City Crew has prepared the tree planting site. They have a light lunch and then Park members tell history of Tree City USA and how it started. The Mayer will then read the Proclamation an the youth take turns planting the tree with instruction from City Maintenance crew. They then water and mulch before walking back to school. A picture is also taken with all attending holding the Tree City Flag which is then published in the Local Newspaper.

Arbor Day Celebration

Each year our Arbor Day Celebration begins with musical selections from our middle school band. After the Pledge of Allegiance the Chairperson and mayor welcome the program. The members of Sidney's Shade Tree Commission are introduced along with other invited guests such as senators and congressmen. Each year a poster contest is held and the entrees are displayed by the students. The winning poster has become the information poster for the celebration with printed copies distributed throughout the village. Each year an Arbor Day tree is planted, honoring an individual or organization that have contributed to the village in a meaningful way. The honoree and individuals wishing to participate are invited to speak. The students help with the tree planting with the honoree. The student band ends the program followed by distribution of sapling.
