City of Jackson Tree Commission Arbor Day Celebration

On Friday April 25th the City of Jackson and the Tree Commission will hold a community Arbor Day Celebration in Manpower Park where over 40 new trees have been planted over the last 3 years. A dozen and a half or so apple trees have been planted and these trees have been designated as The Mayor's Orchard. Jackso once had over 40 orchards and we are working on rebuilding and adding orchards to our community. At the ceremony we will go through the origin and importance of Arbor Day. Our 200 first graders in the district will be provided with White Pine seedlings and information on planting them. Our YCAT group from the high school- Youth Climate Action Team- will also be a part of this educational event. It is our hope to get this group involved in establishing orchards at all of our schools. These orchards would provide opportunities for hands on land lab experiences for our students. Thus, promoting the establishment and care of the trees!
