Tree Identification

Is the fruit a 2 - 31/2" long woody cone with shield-shaped scales? CLUE: the tree is only native to a few groves in California's Sierra Nevada. These trees are often very large. 

It is a giant sequoia.

Is the fruit berry-like or a woody cone less than 11/2" long?
