Akambira

Akambira inspires musical creativity

Like the Marimba, this Akambira is made specifically for the outdoors, of durable, weather-resistant Ipe and Cedar wood, along with stainless and galvanized steel. The Akambira’s design is derived from an African Xylophone. It is set up like a kalimba or thumb drum with the lowest pitched key in the middle and then alternating left and right to move up the scale. This beautifully hand-crafted instrument is set to the key of C major pentatonic. Each unit comes with one set of hard rubber mallets that has been specifically designed for this Akambira. Some assembly required.

Listen to how the akambira sounds. (MP3, 0:34, 474 KB)

One set of mallets included.

Cedar Leg Note: Please note that Akambira & Marimba legs/posts are now made from 4x4 cedar, instead of 4x4 ipe, due to a decrease in quality and supply of Ipe 4x4s. Therefore, the legs may not be an exact match to the frame. The Ipe 4x4 quality became unreliable, as well as difficult to obtain. We apologize for this inconvenience.
