Schedule

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The seminar begins at 9:00 am. and concludes at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Tuition

This all-day seminar is $129 per person, $150 if registration is received within 7 days ofthe seminar. Included are all training and reference materials, morning and afternoon beverage service and lunch. Continuing Education Credit Approval

This seminar has been approved by the Society of American Foresters for 5.5 Category-1 Continuing Forestry Education units. This seminar has also been approved for Advanced Training Credits by the North Texas Master Naturalists and the Dallas County Master Gardeners.

Meet Your Instructors

Steven Apfelbaum is one of the leading research and consulting ecologists in the U.S. involved with ecosystem restoration. Founder and owner of Applied Ecological Services Inc., Brodhead, Wisconsin, a pioneering restoration consulting and contracting firm, Apfelbaum has over 20 years experience in ecological research, design and implementation. A frequent keynote speaker at ecological seminars, Apfelbaum is recognized nationally as an expert in wetland creation and restoration, and has been published extensively on the restoration of wetlands, prairies, oak savannas and woodland systems. He earned a master’s degree in ecological science from the University of lllinois at Urbana.

Dr. Kim Chapman is a Principal Ecologist with Applied Ecological Services. He earned his Ph.D. in Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota. Kim has 25 years of experience in ecological research, natural resource planning, land restoration and land management He has worked as staff ecologist for the Michigan Natural Heritage Program, as Midwest regional ecologist for The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and as science and stewardship director for the Minnesota Chapter of TNC. He has taught at the University of St. Thomas, University of Minnesota and Macalester College.

Mark O’Leary is Director of Consulting and Senior Ecologist at Applied Ecological Services. He earned his master’s degree in Zoology at Southern lllinois University. Mark heads up AES’ multidisciplinary consulting team and is a practicing, senior ecologist with more than 13 years experience. In his role as Director of Consulting Services, Mark supervises regional branch managers and a professional staff of ecologists, landscape architects, engineers, and support staff. In his role as Senior Ecologist, Mark puts together and directs projects, facilitates consulting teams and clients, and plays an active role in actual project work. He will share his experiences on a variety of restoration projects in Texas.
