Plant in a sunny area with enough space for 2-3 bushes to help assure cross pollination by the wind. They form a dense, multi-stemmed shrub up to 15' tall and 10' wide with deep, fibrous roots that grow well in most soils, but prefer acidic to neutral, moist, and well drained. Avoid heavy clay, shallow hardpan, or marshy soils. In addition to producing nuts for your personal enjoyment or market, hazelnut shrubs have a high wildlife value providing food and nesting and hiding cover for many birds and mammals.
