Lied Lodge & Conference Center
The
Lied Lodge and Conference Center is a world class facility dedicated
to the achievement of successful meetings. Lied Conference Center
reflects the mission and goals of its parent organization, The National
Arbor Day Foundation.
The Arbor Day Foundation convenes conferences at Lied
Conference Center to find creative solutions for the complex problems
facing trees and the environment.
Fuelwood Plant
Growing trees for fuelwood is a job-creating technology that improves
the environment. The fuelwood plant has a Visitors Gallery where
you can see how wood chips fuel the conference center's boilers
and learn more about biomass and other renewable energy sources.
Wood chips, stored in the hopper, are fed by scrapers and augers
to the boiler system, where steam is created for heating and hot
water. An evaporation/absorption chiller uses the steam to create
air conditioning. Cyclone precipitators remove particulates so emissions
are clean. Ash is removed and composted or recycled. Click
here to learn more about this system.
Lied Conference Center (pronounced lead as in leadership) is the
only education center of its kind in America with staff and programs
dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship. the project
began with a challenge grant from the United States Congress, championed
by senators J. James Exon and J. Robert Kerry and endorsed by the
National Association of State Foresters.
