| Tree Planting & Establishment Workshop
Featuring Dr. Bruce Fraedrich
Planting
trees is an investment in the future, but trees that are planted incorrectly or
are not given adequate care to grow and thrive will not yield the dividends we
expect. Whether you are leading a
community tree planting initiative, overseeing the planting of trees in a new
development, or planting a single tree in your own yard, implementing proper
tree planting and aftercare practices will safeguard your investment.
This
workshop, taught by Dr. Bruce Fraedrich, provides useful, up-to-date,
scientific information on planting and caring for young trees. An indoor lecture focuses on a variety
of factors that impact the ability of trees to become established and thrive: tree species and cultivars, soils and
the planting site, planting techniques, and types of planting stock. Planting techniques, trouble-shooting,
and after care will also be addressed in outdoor demonstrations.
What you will learn
- Proper and suggested tree species and cultivars for their region
- How to correctly evaluate soils and site conditions
- The latest tree planting techniques and standards
- Pros and cons of planting bare root, balled & burlapped, and containerized trees
- How to overcome transplanting problems – troubleshooting
- Correct after care techniques – pruning, irrigation, soil and pest management
