SEFCU Will Distribute Over 100,000 Trees to New York Groups Through Partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation

06/10/08
Nebraska City, Neb. (June 10, 2008) – SEFCU will make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant one tree in New York on behalf of each new member who joins the credit union during 2008.

And as a part of the promotion with the Arbor Day Foundation, SEFCU will distribute more than 100,000 trees through an online giveaway to New York-based nonprofit organizations starting on June 15. Each new member will ensure one more tree is contributed in the online giveaway.

SEFCU, one of the largest credit unions in New York, will distribute trees to Western New York Tree Recovery, New York Parks and Recreations Departments and local Forest Preserves.

Already, SEFCU has made a donation of 156,844 trees on behalf of all current members. Of those trees, 50,000 were distributed by Western New York AmeriCorps.

“This commitment by SEFCU will help plant trees in an area of New York suffered major tree losses during the October snow storm in 2006 and will have a lasting impact on the state for generations to come,” said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees help restore wildlife habitat, clean the air, protect soil and waterways, and add beauty to the landscape for everyone to enjoy.”

“In 2008 SEFCU made the commitment to go green, and in addition to the donation of trees, we have evaluated the credit union from top to bottom to find ways to preserve the environment,” said Michael J. Castellana, SEFCU President & CEO. “We’re pleased to be able to donate such a large number of trees and appreciate the impact they will have on the environment.”
