2010 Arbor Day National Poster Contest

Trees are Terrific...and Energy Wise!

Teacher Idea Submission

Here is a great teacher suggestion for enhancing the Windbreak Activity in the "Trees Are Terrific...and Energy Wise!" Arbor Day National Poster Contest Activity Guidebook!

This idea came from Ted Czarnecki, 5th grade teacher at Orchard View Elementary School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ted suggested that, for schools without thermometers, a great way to show the temperature difference a shade tree can make would be to have students set coins out in both the sun and shade. Have students feel the difference in the temperature of the coins to find the difference that trees make!

Thanks Ted for your great idea!
