Developing Observation Skills: Documentation

Art

How do you pack everything you need in your suitcase for a weekend get away? How do children put together a puzzle they have never seen before? The answer to both those questions is through visual-spatial thinking. In this workshop see how and why strengthening our own visual-spatial thinking and supporting children's is so important. Families and educators widely recognize the crucial role adults play in helping children learn to speak.

Conversely, we assume that children are born knowing how to see well. Because of this, we may be missing crucial opportunities to help preschool and elementary children learn to observe more closely and develop vital visual-spatial skills that are foundational for later math and science learning. Workshop participants will discover new methods for supporting and documenting children's learning indoors and outdoors, and for helping children with behavioral challenges and verbal-language delays become more successful. Find out what we can learn about children's development when we really know how to "listen" to their visual spatial language.
