The Nature Explore Classroom at Five Towns

Child Care Center

Five Towns Child Care Center is celebrating their 4th year as a certified Nature Explore Classroom.

"Part of every visit by new parents is opening the door to our "piece of heaven" our backyard. This gives us a wonderful opportunity to share with parents our understanding of the importance of being outdoors, not only for young children, but for all humans. I believe that we are fully enrolled because of the outdoor space at the Center. Parents step out into the Play Garden and they want it for their children."
-Pepper Robinson, Director Five Towns Early Learning Center

Pepper Robinson and Dr. Shoshanah Findling, Board member, are writing a monthly column in the local newspaper which allows them to share their beliefs with parents and the entire community about the importance of being outdoors. In January 2012, the focus of the article was outdoor play in the winter called "Too cold to go outside?"

Each season is spectacular in the Nature Explore Classroom. In the spring, when the magnolia tree sheds its blossoms and the bulbs burst into bloom, the classroom view is priceless. During the summer, the garden is a wonderful way to involve parents while they harvest produce with their child. Adding a natural water feature is the next big project that will enrich the children's outdoor experience at Five Towns Early Learning Center.
