Now in its fourth season, the Missouri Botanical Garden Nature Explore Classroom continues to grow.
As the 2nd certified classroom in the United States, this beautiful site has incorporated many new additions throughout the year. Planting beds and raised planter beds provide a great space for hands-on gardening while offering a variety of sensory and edible plants for visitors of all ages to experience.
Through the support of a generous donor, three substantial trees were added to the perimeter of the Children’s Garden to provide more shade for hot July days. Cedar wood cookies and other natural items are continually added to areas throughout the year.
Musical instruments, including rhythm ribbons, tambourines, rattles and wrist bells have been added to enhance the musical experience in the Movement and Music area.

Worn fencing was replaced with new fencing made from materials recycled from another area. This addition provides a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing fence that matches the rest of the Children’s Garden.
A beautifully sculptured bench, carved with oak leaves and acorns, was relocated within the Nature Explore Classroom on a newly installed surface.
Family awareness continues to increase through a wide variety of programs and marketing that engage families in the wonders of the outdoors. Interpretive and staff-led programs continue to offer fun, enriching and engaging opportunities for visiting families throughout the year.
