The Nature Explore Classroom at DKH Academy

DKH Academy is celebrating their 2nd year as a certified Nature Explore Classroom.

Throughout the past year, many new items have been added to the DKH Academy Nature Explore Classroom, including additional instruments to the Sound and Music Area and a new pathway constructed where the children naturally created a path.

Plantings of ferns, grasses, ground cover and flowers dot the landscape of this beautiful classroom. Natural wood edging now lines each of the spaces where wide varieties of activities take place and are rotated throughout the different learning areas.

Kindergarten Graduation and varying types of performances are now scheduled outdoors within the Nature Explore Classroom. A bulletin board, inside the school, highlights activities of the classroom which are then also shared with all who come through to tour the school. After the community-wide Open House, held August 31, 2009, DKH Academy has been host to many different organizations seeking development of an outdoor classroom at their own sites.

A Nature Explore Families Club has been started and continues to expand with innovative ways to connect families with nature.
