Andrew C. Taylor

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Andy Taylor, who became involved in the automotive business more than 30 years ago, assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in 1991, and was named Chairman in 2001. Under Andy’s leadership, the company, which was founded by his father Jack Taylor in 1957, has grown to become the largest rental car company in North America.

Taylor began his career with Enterprise at the age of 16 in one of the original St. Louis offices, where he washed cars during summer and holiday vacations and learned the business from the ground up. He continued his education at the University of Denver, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1970. Following graduation, he opted to gain some initial experience outside of the family business and began working for RLM Leasing, a Ford Motor company affiliate in San Francisco. After three years at the company, Andy returned to the St. Louis area to work for Enterprise.

In 1976, Taylor became the General Manager of Enterprise’s St. Louis regional operations. In 1980, he was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. During his time with Enterprise, the company has increased its fleet size from 5,000 cars to more than 800,000 vehicles worldwide. Currently, the company has more than 6,900 offices in North America and Europe.

Outside of his professional duties with Enterprise, Taylor plays an active role in the community. He was the past Campaign Chairman and Board Chair of the United Way of Greater St. Louis; past President of Civic Progress, an organization of leading chief executives in St. Louis who work for improvements on a wide range of civic issues; Trustee of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra; Trustee of Washington University; Trustee for the Naval Aviation History Foundation; Life Trustee of the Missouri Botanical Garden, which is the oldest botanical garden in the U.S. and ranks among the top three worldwide; Director of Anheuser Busch Companies; and Director of Commerce Bancshares. Taylor is also on the Board of Trustees of the National Urban League. In addition, Taylor is a past Trustee of John Burroughs School, the St. Louis Science Center, and KETC-TV, a public broadcasting station in St. Louis.
